How To Create a Product

Creating a product at Crafts n’ Things is super easy. Once you have registered as a seller, you can easily create products and customise them from an intuitive dashboard.

Create a Product

To create a product, go to your seller’s dashboard. Then, click on the “Products” tab on the side menu. Then, click on the “Add New Product” button.

You will be redirected to a new window where you will be able to create a new product and specify all basic details first. After that, you will  be able to add further information and settings to your product.

Basic Details

The basic details of a product are the title, price, description, categories, tags, and images. Sale price is optional. You can even schedule discounted price for a certain amount of time. You will be able to enter a starting and end date to apply automatic discounts to your product.

You will be able to create your own tags, and choose the product’s categories from a dropdown list. If you believe your product does not fit any of the available categories, please contact us.

After you have provided all the basic information, click on the “Create Product” button. This will create your product and redirect you to the “Edit Product” page, where you will be able to add further information about your product. If you would rather create the product and add another one immediately, click on the “Create & Add New” button.

Once you have been redirected to the “Edit Product” page, you will be able to select if this product is either a “Simple” or “Variable” product from the dropdown list.

Simple Product

These types of products are simple and have no variations. They are single and standalone products, which means they does not require any other information to define different variations.

You can create attributes on this product, but the customer won’t be able to choose different options from a dropdown list. To make this available, you will need to create a Variable product. This option is available both on the “Artistic” and “Masterpiece” selling plans.

Variable Product

A variable product is a product that has different types of variations. For example, you might want to sell a bracelet which is available in three different colours and sizes. This option will enable you to add those colours and sizes you need. You can also add variations based on anything you like, perhaps material used or the stitching style.

In the next example, we will create a colour variation on our product. First of all, we will make our product “variable”.

Then, in the “Attribute and Variation” tab, we will add the Colour attribute. Make sure to check the box “Used for variations” if, for example, you would like to make price changes, or add different pictures for each one. Click on the “Save Attribute” button.

You will now be able to create variations. You can add them one by one, or click on “Create Variations from each Attribute”.
Be careful, if you have many different attributes, this will create all possible variations.

NOTE: If you want your variation to be displayed on the product page, it is required that you add at least the regular price for each variation. Otherwise, the variation will not be visible or available for the customer to choose from.

Check out the following video to see how to create attributes and variations on your products.

Enable Product Stock Management

Let’s say you have 5 units of this product and you don’t want to receive any new orders once all of them have been sold. If you enable stock management and enter 5 in the quantity field, then once all 5 units are ordered, this product will show an “Out of Stock” message to the customer.

But, you might want to take some pre-orders before your next batch comes up. So you can also “Allow Back Orders” to let the customers place orders even if the product is out of stock.

Downloadable Product

If you are selling designs, patterns, or any digital product, then this is the option to use. You need to specify that your product is “Simple“, “Downloadable” and “Virtual“. If you do not check the Virtual checkbox, shipping will be required for this item.

If you click on the Add File button, three more fields will be added. The name field defines what the downloaded file name should be. We are letting you define that because you might name the original file to something like “finished-greeting-card-design.png” and you want the user to download the file as “Happy Birthday Greeting Card”. So this option will be useful for you to serve and organise better.

If you are serving the files from your very own site, then you can click on choose file and select. But you can also serve the file from Dropbox, Google Drive or any other file hosting site you like.

Finally, you can also specify a Download Limit and a Download Expiry. If you do not want to set a download limit or expiry, then you must specify this as “-1” (minus one).

Shipping

To set up your store’s shipping options, you need to go to the “Shipping” tab inside the “Settings” menu from your Dashboard. NOTE: Shipping is currently only available within the UK.

Once inside the Shipping Settings Tab, you will have two options:

  1. Use the Zone-Wise Shipping System – if you usually charge a flat rate depending on the product parcel size.
  2. Use the Previous Shipping System – if you would like to specify a shipping cost depending on each product.

Other Options

Visibility

The visibility option defines the privacy of the product. By default “Visible” is selected. But if you want the product to only appear on category listing page, search results or want to list as a hidden product, then you can select the option respectively.

If you select any other option than “Visible” then the product will not appear on the site other than the store page.

Purchase Note

If you want the customer to receive a custom message right after purchasing the product, you can write it in this box.

Reviews

If you do not want to receive reviews for this product from the customers, you can either enable or disable this option.
